All NBA 2K20 Green Screen, Crash, MSVCP140.dll Missing Fixes

NBA 2K20 is the latest entry in the franchise and a controversial one. However, the PC version of the game is not perfect by any stretch and players are experiencing errors and issues like Low FPS, missing .dll files, and crashes.

The following are the errors and issues that players are experiencing along with their possible fixes and workarounds.

Sim To Next Appearance Fix

Players are experiencing issues with creating a new character in NBa2K20. Here are a couple of fixes that will resolve this problem.

Fix #1: All you have to do for the first fix is lock the game at 60 Hz and turn on the Vertical Sync, and the issue will resolve.

Fix #2: For the second fix, while creating the character, Alt + Tab multiple times until the game slows down allowing you to simulate. Both fixes will resolve the problem.

Crash At Launch, Crash Fix

Players are reporting that either NBA 2K20 doesn’t launch or it just crashes randomly. Here are the fixes for the game’s random crashes and crashes on startup.

Fix #1: Many players experience NBA 2K20 crashing at startup or not launching at all. The reason is your anti-virus software or Windows Defender falsely detecting the game’s executable file as Malware. Third-party anti-virus software, like DeepGuard, often detects game files as malware or virus.

To fix this you can disable your anti-virus software or make an exception for the game’s install folder file in your anti-virus software, I recommend the latter. After that, verify game files, launch NBA 2K20 and it won’t crash at launch. This will resolve the game not launching issue for you.

Fix #2: Another reason for NBA 2K20 to crash at launch is that Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 and Visual C++ 2015 Redistributables have missing or corrupt files. Install or repair Visual C++ components to fix NBA 2K20’s crash at startup issue. Download them and install/repair them and the game will start working. Alternatively:

  • Open the Steam library and type ‘Steamworks’ in the search bar
  • Right-click “Steamworks Common Redistributables” > Manage > Browse local files
  • A new Explorer window will open
  • Go to _CommonRedist\vcredist
  • There are folders with names in years starting from 2010
  • Open each folder and run the VC_redis, both x64 and x86 versions
  • Install or repair Visual C++ Redistributables and restart your PC
  • Launch NBA 2K20 and the crash at startup issue is fixed

Fix #3: As for the random crashes, this could be due to you using third-party monitoring software like MSI Afterburner or a utility like GeForce Experience. Disable any third-party utility of monitoring software you are using and the crashing issue should be resolved.

Fix #4: Sometimes, launching the game in windowed mode can resolve crashes or graphics issues. Modify the Game’s Launch Options to fix the NBA 2K20 crashes.

  • In Steam, right-click NBA 2K20 > ‘Properties’. Under ‘General’, find ‘Set Launch Options’. Type in -windowed and click ‘OK’.
  • For other launchers, you can find similar settings or edit the game’s shortcut by adding -windowed to the target field.

Low FPS, Performance Fix

NBA 2K20 PC version isn’t a perfect port and it shows the performance issues the game is experiencing. There are a couple of things that you can do to improve performance and eliminate stuttering from the game.

First, install the latest GPU drivers as they bring game-specific optimizations. Also, make sure that there is no background process running that is using too much of your HDD or CPU.

for Nvidia GPU users, open Nvidia Control Panel> Manage 3D Settings> Program Settings> select the game. Set “Power Management Mode” to “Prefer Maximum Performance” and “Texture Filtering- Quality” to “High Performance”. This will improve the game’s performance and eliminate stuttering.

Green Screen Fix

Fix #1: To fix the NBA 2K20 green fix error, play the game in windowed mode.

Fix #2: Open Nvidia Control Panel> Display > Change Resolution. Select “Use Nvidia Color Setting” and check “Highest (32-bit)” for Desktop Color depth. Apply the settings and the green screen issue will be resolved.

Missing .dll Files Fix

Players report that when they start NBA 2K20 they get an error telling them they have a missing dll file. For some the error specifies MSVCP140.dll and for others, it’s different .dll file life MSVCP120.dll.

Fix #1: This can be fixed by installing Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013 and the 64-bit version of Visual C++ Redistributable. Installing or repairing these will reinstall the missing or damaged .dll file and the NBA 2K20 will become playable.

Fix #2: Corrupt or missing game files often cause crashes with missing dll file errors. Here’s how to fix the NBAS 2K20’s missing dll error:

Steam Users:

  • Right-click NBA 2K20 in your Steam library.
  • Select the ‘Properties’ > ‘Installed Files’ tab.
  • Click ‘Verify integrity of game files…’. This process will check for missing or corrupted files and automatically replace them.

Epic Games Launcher Users:

  • Go to your Library.
  • Click the three dots under NBA 2K20.
  • Select ‘Verify’, and the launcher will do the rest.
