While playing through Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, you’ll need to settle in England alongside your clan. However, trying to do so without any supplies can be a nightmare. That’s where raids come in. As Eivor, you can lead your clan to raid various settlements and pillage the most-needed resources to keep your settlement going. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about how raids work in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla Raids
There are over a dozen locations you can raid in AC: Valhalla. These locations are marked with a red axe icon on the map. Thanks to the open-world aspect of the game, you’re free to raid whenever you desire but most of them are in the areas that require a higher Power Level, preventing you from doing that from the very beginning. It’s important to match your Power Level to the suggested level of the region to avoid overwhelming challenges.
That, however, doesn’t mean that AC: Valhalla won’t give you a taste of raiding early on. While in Norway, you’ll be provided with a brief tutorial of how raiding works in the game by needing you to raid one of Kjotve’s camps. From that point onwards, raids will become available, and you’ll be able to do them whenever you want.
By raiding, you’ll get your hands on supplies and raw materials that you’d be able to use to expand Ravensthorpe – by adding new buildings, merchants, and more. Additionally, raids can yield various other treasures, like gold, special armor, and Books of Knowledge, which provide new skills.
Starting a Raid
If you reach a raid location using your ship, you’ll receive an on-screen prompt telling you that you can raid a nearby settlement. If not on a ship, you can simply walk to the raid location and then select ‘Raid’ from the wheel menu. Raids can be approached stealthily, where you can sneak into locations and start the raid with stealth kills to avoid a full-scale battle.
How to Lead?
Once started, you’ll be thrown into a large battle with both forces going at one another. All you need to do is to continue thinning the herd down and occasionally kill the leaders. While engaged in combat, try to attack opponents who are already fighting your Vikings for an easier battle. If a crew member is knocked out, they will be marked with an exclamation mark and can be revived by running to them. It’s also possible to free prisoners who may join the fight. Avoid killing civilians, as doing so repeatedly can lead to desynchronization.
While raiding, you’ll also come across a number of golden chests and wealth in the area – make sure to grab those too. Some treasures require the help of other Vikings to access, such as breaking down doors or moving heavy covers. Use Odin’s Sight frequently to locate these resources, enemies, and special items.
After you manage to eliminate all the enemy forces in the settlement, the raid will end and you’ll be free to walk back to Ravensthorpe with plenty of resources and materials.
River Raids
In addition to the regular raids in England and Norway, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla introduces a unique and challenging feature known as River Raids. These are accessible by speaking to a character named Vagn, located in your settlement by the old dock. River Raids are set in open maps separate from the main game.
How to Start River Raids
To start a River Raid, simply find Vagn and start the introductory quest. River Raids are designed to be more challenging than standard raids, so consider upgrading Eivor’s skills and equipment.
The goal in River Raids is to collect Foreign Supplies, a resource unique to these maps, used for upgrading specific settlement buildings and purchasing new cosmetic items. The raids include farms, villages, monasteries, and military encampments.
Notably, River Raids offer exclusive rewards like Saint George’s Armor Set and unique weapons, such as Saint George’s Holy Sword, along with new abilities in Books of Knowledge. These rewards are randomized, with armor typically found in large military camps.
Unlocking Additional Maps
To access the third River Raid map, players must find Saint George’s Clues in the River Exe and River Severn maps. These clues are typically located in monasteries.
Similar to standard raids, using Odin’s Sight helps in locating treasures and enemies. However, considering the higher difficulty of these raids, a stealthy approach might be more effective, especially on higher difficulty settings.
