You Won’t Be Locked Into Playing As Yasuke or Naoe in AC Shadows, Says Ubisoft

Ubisoft’s latest entry in the storied Assassin’s Creed franchise, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” promises to shake things up by allowing players unprecedented freedom to switch between its two main characters at any point.

In a refreshing shift from previous dual-protagonist setups in the series, where balancing often felt more compulsory than natural, Ubisoft has confirmed that players can stick with their preferred character for the majority of the game if they choose.

“We’re not really strong-arming anyone to switch back and forth,” stated the game director in a recent interview with GamesRadar. This approach allows for a more personalized experience, catering to individual playstyles.

Although certain missions might benefit more from the specific skills of one character over the other, Ubisoft is not making this a requirement.

For example, a mission designed with stealth in mind can still be approached head-on with Yasuke, and conversely, Naoe can be brought into more confrontational scenarios.

Moreover, very few missions in the game will force the players hand due to narrative reasons. Other than that, players can play most of the game with their preferred character.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows introduces us to Yasuke, a samurai, and Naoe, a shinobi, each bringing a unique flair and set of skills to the table. While Yasuke offers a more direct approach with his samurai prowess, Naoe excels in stealth, giving players varied ways to tackle each mission.
