The Coward’s Way to Beating Tree Sentinel
Preparing for tree Sentinel
The Tree Sentinel is a tough enemy, especially at the beginning. Instead of fighting him right away, spend some time exploring the world of Elden Ring. Leveling up your character is the best way to handle this fight, and the open-world design of the game allows you to find numerous opportunities for growth. Focus on leveling up stats that complement your chosen playstyle. For example:
- Strength: If you prefer using heavy weapons.
- Dexterity: For faster weapons and precision attacks.
- Intelligence and Mind: If you rely on magic.
- Vigor and Endurance: Essential for all builds, providing more health and stamina.
Gear and Weapon Recommendation
- Beast Crest Heater Shield: Found near the Gatefront Ruins, this shield provides 100% physical damage negation.
- Sacred Tears: Found in various churches, these items enhance your flask’s healing capabilities.
- Spirit Ashes: After resting at the Gatefront Ruins site of grace, you can acquire the ability to summon spirit allies, which can be a game-changer in tough battles.
Basics of Tree Sentinel Boss
Tree Sentinel’s primary weapon is his halberd, which he uses for both wide sweeps and powerful thrusts. These attacks are well-telegraphed, giving you a chance to dodge or block effectively. Pay attention to his movements, as he often winds up his arms before attacking, providing a clear indication of when to dodge.
Around halfway through the fight, Tree Sentinel will start using his shield offensively. This includes a devastating slam that deals damage in a large area. Make sure to dodge away from him when you see this move coming.
The Tree Sentinel’s horse also poses a significant threat. If you stay close to his flank for too long, the horse will bodycheck you, causing substantial damage. Always be prepared to dodge or block these attacks.
Melee Strategy
Your horse, Torrent, provides the mobility needed to dodge the Tree Sentinel’s attacks. Lock onto the boss and circle him, baiting out his attacks.
Charge in, land one or two hits, and quickly retreat. This prevents you from being caught by his follow-up attacks.
Keep raisins in your hotbar to heal Torrent during the fight. You can craft them using Rowa Fruit, which can be gathered around the world.
Magic and Ranged Strategy
Find a spot where you can safely attack from a distance. The ruins around the Tree Sentinel’s patrol route or the entrance to the Church of Elleh are good options.
Be wary of the Tree Sentinel’s reflective shield ability, which can send your spells back at you. Prepare to dodge when you see him using this move.
Summon Spirit Ashes, like the wolves, to distract the Tree Sentinel, allowing you to attack from a distance.
