Typically you need to kill a scarab to get Ashes of War but things are a bit different for the Barricade Shield. To get it, you need to head over to Castle Morne Rampart in the Weeping Peninsula. You can find the location marked on the map below:
Rest at the site of grace and pass the time to night. Once you do that the Night’s Cavalry will appear in the area. You need to defeat it in order to get the Barricade Shield.
The Night’s Cavalry is not too hard to beat as you can see its moves from far away. If you do get hit then it will do a lot of damage. So be careful of that. You can use Torrent to hit and run to make the encounter easier than it would be on foot.
The Barricade Shield Ashes of War allows you to apply this skill to most shields that you find in the game but there are shields that you can find that already have this skill on them.
