How To Get Traits In BG3

Traits are specific to races, while features are determined by your class. For example, different races like Elves or Dwarves have unique racial traits, and classes like Wizards or Fighters have distinct class features.

These are special talents or expertise areas providing unique skills, which can be related to combat, ability scores, or out-of-combat scenarios. You can choose feats regardless of your class or race, as long as you meet the prerequisites.

This allows you to switch to another class in-game. Multiclassing gives you the flexibility to combine different class features and abilities, like combining martial prowess with spellcasting.

You have the freedom to choose your preferred class without worrying about party composition, as all companions can be respecced to any other class. This respec doesn’t affect their story, origin, or lore.

Note: Certain items can grant additional traits or enhance existing ones.

As you level up, you gain new features and abilities based on your class and subclass choices.

Can You Change Your Class To Get Other Features In BG3?

Yes, you can change your class to acquire different features in “Baldur’s Gate 3.” This is facilitated through an NPC encountered early in Act 1, who allows you to restart your build with new starting proficiencies, attributes, spells, and cantrips. Additionally, companions can also be respecced to any other class, enabling you to experiment with different combinations and classes to find the build that best suits your playstyle. This flexibility allows for extensive customization and experimentation with various class features and abilities.

Traits Vs. Features In Baldur’s Gate 3

In “Baldur’s Gate 3” and similar role-playing games, traits and features are distinct concepts:

  • Traits are usually innate abilities or characteristics tied to a character’s race or background. For example, an Elf might have a trait giving them proficiency in perception or a Dwarf might have resistance to poison. These are typically passive abilities that reflect the nature or culture of the character’s race or background.
  • Features, on the other hand, are abilities or skills primarily associated with a character’s class. They are gained as the character levels up and are often active abilities or skills used during gameplay, such as a Wizard’s spellcasting ability or a Fighter’s combat maneuvers. These features define the core capabilities and specializations of the character’s chosen class.

These are all the traits that you can work around with in Baldur’s Gate 3. For more help on the game, you can check out our detailed Baldur’s Gate wiki guides.
