Elden Ring: How To Beat Malenia, Blade Of Miquella

Apart from the main bosses in the storyline, you can defeat some challenging optional bosses. Malenia, Blade Of Miquella is the most difficult optional boss that many players have had trouble with. In this Elden Ring guide, we go over how you can beat Malenia.

How To Defeat Malenia Easily In Elden Ring

WeaponMagma Blade
IncantationDragonice

Malenia takes a lot of damage from Frost, Fire, and Bleed. Her major weakness is that she has low poise, which means that she can be staggered easily. We recommend using the Magma Blade against Malenia, which deals high fire damage and can stagger her easily. The weapon’s ability allows you to quick attacks in succession, dealing high amounts of damage and stunning her.

Note that some attacks make Malenia’s hand turn golden. These are critical attacks that need to be dodged. Otherwise, they will deal serious damage to you. These attacks are also great for countering. Once the golden attacks are over, you can head in and land some blows.

The Waterfowl dance attack is what most players will have an issue with. If you are far enough, you should move back to avoid most of the attack, but once she gets close enough, you need to dodge toward her and not back. Dodging backward is the main mistake that players make. For for a movement between her attacks and then dodge towards her again. This might take some practice, but once you have figured it out, you will realize that dodging toward her is the way to go.

Second Phase

During the second phase of the encounter, wait for her to drop and then dodge back. Get to a safe enough distance and then use Dragonice. As mentioned above, she takes a lot of damage from Frost.

An important thing to know is that she drops her armor in the second phase of the encounter, so she has little to no poise. You can stagger her pretty easily as long as she has not committed to an attack. You must be patient, but you can still hit her hard and stun her.

How To Get Items For This Build

How To Get Magma Blade

It can be dropped by the Man-Serpent enemies wielding the orange-glowing Magma Blade at Volcano Manor.

How To Get Dragonice

It can be bought from the Church of Dragon Communion off the coast of West Limgrave or the Cathedral of Dragon Communion in the south of the Caelid Region. It will cost you a dragon heart, which you can get by killing a dragon.

How To Counter Waterfowl Dance

Waterfowl Dance is the most deadly attack that Malenia can use. Fortunately, there are a few ways of dealing with this move. You can use a freezing pot to interrupt Waterfowl Dance. You can keep your distance to avoid the first two bursts but you need to dodge towards Malenia to dodge the third attack in the combo.

Bloodhound’s Step Ash of War can be used instead of dodge rolls. This helps you travel a greater distance and gives you additional invincibility frames. You can get this from the Night’s Cavalry in Caelid.
