How to Get Maiden Blood in Elden Ring (2023)

NPCs in Elden Ring have their elaborate questlines that the player can engage in. One of the first NPCs that the player meets in Elden Ring is named White-faced Varre who has a fairly lengthy questline – the same NPC who mocks us about being Maidenless. One of the quest steps is to get Maiden Blood which can be a little confusing. In this Elden Ring guide, we have detailed all there is to know about how to get Maiden Blood to complete Varre’s questline.

Varre’s questline can only be initiated after beating Godrick, the Grafted. After beating Godrick, travel to the Rose Church at the Liurnia of the Lakes to speak to White-faced Varre. Once prompted, select the top dialogue option to acquire 5x Festering Bloody Fingers – these are needed to invade other people.

After three invasions, return to Varre to get Lord of Blood’s Favor. This item must be soaked in Maiden Blood to progress the questline. There are a couple of methods to do it which are explained below:

Church of Inhibition

For this method, travel to the Church of Inhibition and there should be a maiden at the top of the church. However, do note that this method can cause Madness.

Chapel of Anticipation

For the second method, travel to Four Belfries to open a nearby chest containing an Imbued Stonesword Key. Using this Imbued Stonesword Key on a nearby portal will activate it. Once done, interact with it to travel to the beginning area of the game. There should be a maiden in the main room – interact with her to soak the cloth in Maiden Blood.

Regardless of which method the player opted for, return to White-faced Varre to get the Pureblood Knight Medal which is needed to travel to the Mohgwyn Dynasty. This is the area where the player will invade Varre to conclude the questline.

Important Update

As of Patch 1.06, you don’t have to fight other players to complete White Mask Varre’s questine in Elden Ring.

Varre’s Questline and How to Soak the Cloth in Maiden’s Blood (Updated 2023)

To begin the quest, obtain your first Great Rune and speak to Enia the Finger Reader. Find Varre at Rose Church in Liurnia after acquiring the Great Rune. Defeat or ignore the Sanguine Noble in the church. Speak to Varre and express distrust for the Two Fingers to continue the quest.

Invading Players or Defeating Magnus the Beast Claw

Varre gives you Festering Bloody Fingers for invading three other players. Alternatively, since Patch 1.06, go to Writhblood Ruins and use the red invasion sign to fight NPC Magnus the Beast Claw. After completing the invasions, return to Varre and let him anoint you, entering Mohg’s service.

Soaking the Cloth in Maiden’s Blood

Varre instructs you to soak the Lord of Blood’s Favor in a maiden’s blood. You have three choices: Chapel of Anticipation Maiden, Church of Inhibition Maiden, and Murder Hyetta. After soaking the cloth, return to Rose Church and give it to Varre. He rewards you with the Pureblood Knight’s Medal, which grants early access to Mohgwyn Palace and the Mohg fight.

Exploring Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum

Visit the Lake of Blood’s shores to obtain the War Surgeon armor set by defeating two Nameless White Masks in invasion battles. Defeat the Nameless White Masks before defeating Mohg. Farm Runes by defeating Giant Crows near the Lake of Blood.

Confronting Varre

Enter the mausoleum and interact with the red invasion sign. Defeat Varre and speak with him upon returning to your world. Obtain six Festering Bloody Fingers, a Rune Arc, and Varre’s Bouquet upon Varre’s death.

Reaching Mohgwyn Palace without the Pureblood Knight’s Medal

Progress to the Consecrated Snowfield by obtaining the Haligtree Medallion halves and using the Grand Lift of Rold. Use the blood-covered teleportal northwest of the Yelough Anix Site of Grace to reach the Palace Approach.
