Elden Ring: How To Beat Maliketh, The Black Blade In Elden Ring

Elden Ring has all sorts of different challenging enemies for you to take on. While even the regular mobs can take you down, there are difficult bosses and Maliketh, The Black Blade is one of them. In this Elden Ring guide, we will go over how you can beat Maliketh, The Black Blade.

Maliketh is a massive boss but it is also agile. You first meet the boss as the Beast Clergyman and the encounter has two phases. For this boss battle, we recommend having high defense, a strong shield and upgraded armor. The Icon Shield is going to come in handy during this battle and the blessed Dew Talisman is also recommended as it is going to regenerate your health over time automatically.

How To Beat Maliketh, The Black Blade In Elden Ring

Maliketh Weaknesses

Maliketh is weak against different attack types including:

  • Standard
  • Slash
  • Strike
  • Pierce

The boss is vulnerable to critical hits once its stance has been broken. Only two of its attacks can be parried using the Blasphemous Claw.

Use Spirit Summons

We recommend summoning spirits for this encounter. Use the best ones that you have such as Mimic Tear.

Use The Pillars For Cover

If you are at range, then you need to dodge rocks and incantations that the boss can use. You can use the pillars around you to protect yourself from rocks and boulders. Do not stick too close to the pillars since attacks can clip through them and you can get hit.

You Can Jump Over Horizontal Swing Attacks

The Clergyman has many low horizontal swing attacks. You can jump over them to avoid taking damage while getting close to the boss and landing counterattacks.

Posture Break Buildup Carries Over To Phase Two

The heavy damage that you deal towards breaking the posture of the boss will carry forward to the second phase of the encounter. You can use this buildup to break the boss’s stance early in phase two.

Use Sorceries And Status Effects

During the first phase of the fight with Maliketh The Black Blade, we recommend using sorcery, Bleed, or Scarlet Rot damage. Once you have drained the HP bar of the boss to half, the second phase of the encounter is going to start.

Use Crimsonburst Crystal Tear

You can use the Crimsonburst Crystal Tear to offset the damage over time effects of Maliketh’s attacks.

During the second phase of the Maliketh boss fight in Elden Ring, you will get to see the real face of the boss. The boss will now have a large greatsword and will be even faster than before. The attacks will fortunately be more obvious and will allow you to dodge them.

Watch Out For Jumps And Projectiles

During phase two, watch out for when Maliketh jumps into the air and when the boss uses projectiles. Also, if the boss slams its sword into the ground, then you need to move out of the area in order to avoid the area of effect damage.

Which Attacks Can Be Parried?

At times, Maliketh’s blade will turn golden. This indicates that these attacks can be parried using the Blasphemous Claw. If you parry correctly then the boss will be stunned for a long time.

We recommend taking your time and using status effects to your advantage. If you land enough hits to the boss then it will be staggered and you will be able to land a critical strike.
