Into the Light is the next season of Destiny 2 that will release in a few hours (Tuesday, April 9, 2024). This is a massive update to the game and Bungie is adding a lot of content to create hype for the Final Shape expansion. If you have taken a break from the game then you have come to the right place. Here are the 10 big changes coming to Destiny 2 with the launch of Into The Light.
10 Biggest Destiny 2 Into The Light Changes
Everything added to the game as part of this update is completely free. The following are some of the biggest changes coming to Destiny 2 with the release of Into the Light.
Onslaught Horde Mode
Onslaught Horde Mode is the new game mode and the premier game mode for Destiny 2 Into the Light. The basic idea of the game mode is that players need to defend their ADU from waves of enemies. There are 50 waves in total and the difficulty of each wave increases as you progress further.
The ADU does move around to different parts of the map. Every 6th round, players will be teleported to a pyramid ship to defeat enemies. This will be an offensive round. Every 10th round, you will board a pyramid ship where you will face a boss that will drop a chest. You will then move on to the next set of waves.
There are different versions of the Onslaught Horde Mode:
- Ritual Onslaught Playlist: 1 ADU, 10 Rounds
- Standard: 3 ADU Locations, 50 Rounds
- Legendary Onslaught: 3 ADU Locations, 50 Rounds, Increased difficulty, Extra rewards, Weekly modifiers
Special Reward: The first three fireteams to complete all 50 waves of Legendary Onslaught Horde Mode will get a 7-inch replica of Lord Shaxx’s helmet.
Scrap And ADU Defenses
Killing enemies during the Onslaught Horde Mode will reward you with Scrap, which is a resource that you can use to upgrade your ADU’s defenses. Defenses include mines, turrets, and decoys which can be further upgraded as well.
More challenging enemies have a chance of dropping ADU batteries which you can use to increase the health of your ADU. If you use these when your ADU is at max health, then you can earn three times the Scrap than you normally would.
Brave Arsenal
The Brave Arsenal which includes 12 of the fan-favorite and most popular weapons in Destiny 2 are coming back. These weapons were previously locked behind DLCs such as Witch Queen and Beyond Light and needed to be earned from raids. Now players can get them for free. The traits of these weapons will be upgradable when Final Shape launches.
The Brave Arsenal weapons will have random rolls. The Brave Arsenal includes:
- Forbearance – Arc Wave Frame Grenade Launcher
- Succession – Kinetic Aggressive Frame Sniper Rifle
- Recluse – Void Lightweight Submachine Gun
- Mountain Top – Kinetic Mirco-Missile Grenade Launcher
- Luna’s Howl – Solar Precision 140 Hand Cannon
- Falling Guillotine – Void Vortex Frame Sword
- Hammerhead – Void Adaptive Machine Gun
- Blast Furnace – Kinetic Aggressive Burst Pulse Rifle
- Edge Transit – Void Adaptive Heavy Grenade Launcher
- Midnight Coup – Kinetic Adaptive Hand Cannon
- Hung Jury – Kinetic Precision Sout Rifle
- Elsie’s Rifle – Void High Impact Pulse Rifle
With the launch of Destiny 2 Into the Light, six of these weapons will be farmable, including; Recluse, Hung Jury, Succession, Edge Transit, Elsie’s Rifle, and Falling Guillotine. For the next three weeks, two more weapons will be added to the loot pool each week. All weapons will be available in the loot pool on April 30th.
Returning Exotic Missions
Two of the classic exotic missions, The Whisper mission and the Zero Hour mission are coming back to Destiny 2 with the launch of Into the Light and this is one of the biggest changes. These missions have not been available since the release of Destiny 2 Beyond Light, back in November 2020.
These missions have been changed and they are slightly redesigned, so there is something new even if you are a veteran player and have already completed these missions. Bungie has increased the number of enemies in these missions and has also added some surprises for players to discover on their own. These exotic missions will have regular and legendary versions.
- Regular Exotic Mission: 40 Minutes
- Legend Exotic Mission: 20 Minutes, Secrets
Completing both of these missions will reward players with Exotic weapons. This month, the reward is Whisper of the Worm. Next month, the reward will be Outbreak Perfected. Other than these weapons, players can also earn reprised versions of the classic exotic ships. The whisper mission will reward players with the Carve of the Worm exotic ship that is inspired by A Thousand Wings. The Zero Hour mission will reward players with an exotic ship inspired by the Scrap CF-717-91 and Outbreak Perfected.
Craftable Whisper Of The Worm And Outbreak Perfected
Both Outbreak Perfected and Whisper of the Worm will be craftable. Outbreak Perfected has an interesting set of traits that can be applied to the weapon such as increasing the magazine count. Traits like Outlaw can be swapped for Rewind Rounds and Rapid Hit.
Once these exotic weapons have been acquired, they will have mini-quests for three weeks that will allow players to unlock additional crafting options for them. If you already have the exotic catalysts for these weapons then you can slot them into the new craftable weapons. Otherwise, you can earn them from the legendary versions of the respective missions.
Hall Of Champions And Superblack Shader
There is a new social space called the Hall of Champions. This is located in a new part of the Tower and it has a lot of easter eggs that are worth checking out. Here you will also find Lord Shaxx, who has the Superblack Key Alpha that is required to unlock the Superblack shader. The other key that you need is from the other vendor in this area called Arcite 99-40. You can get this key from him by unlocking all of the 12 Brave Arsenal weapons.
There are also locked chests in the Hall of Champions that you can unlock as you progress your reputation with Lord Shaxx. These have a chance of rewarding you with the new Into the Light armor sets.
The Pantheon
The Pantheon is a new activity that will release on April 30th. There is little that we know about this activity but we do know that it will be a combination of raids, bosses gauntlets. The weekly challenge will feature increasing difficulty and rewards such as Exotics, Adept weapons, and emblems.

These weapons are going to be very desirable since players will be able to enhance the 3rd and 4th column perks on all brave weapons when The Final Shape expansion launches. You will be able to enhance both the traits in these columns for the special edition weapons.
