More than a decade after the release of BioShock Infinite, the series is making a comeback with its development now “ramping up.”
Senior cinematic designer Jeff Spoonhower recently took to LinkedIn to announce the exciting news and highlight over 30 open positions at 2K Cloud Chamber, the Montreal-based studio behind the new BioShock project.
Spoonhower’s LinkedIn post reveals that 2K Cloud Chamber is actively seeking talent across various disciplines, including art, animation, engineering, design, narrative, and production.
The studio is remote-friendly, making it accessible to a broader range of applicants interested in contributing to the next installment in the iconic BioShock series.
The development journey for the new BioShock has been a long and winding road, with work on the continuation of the series ongoing for the past 10 years.
The project has seen multiple starts and stops at different development studios, but it now appears that 2K Cloud Chamber is fully committed to bringing the next chapter of BioShock to life.
What Is Bioshock Isolation?
While specific details about the game are still under wraps, there have been several intriguing leaks and job postings that offer some insight.
The next BioShock, rumored to be titled BioShock 4 or BioShock Isolation, is expected to be set in a new and fantastical world.
According to leaks, the game might take place in the 1960s in the fictional Antarctic twin cities of Aurora and Borealis. This setting hints at a rich, atmospheric environment similar to previous BioShock games but with a fresh, icy twist.
The game is also rumored to be an open-world title, a significant shift from the more linear experiences of its predecessors. Job listings from Cloud Chamber have emphasized the need for developers who can weave impactful, character-driven stories in an open-world setting, suggesting a broader and more immersive narrative experience.
Several key figures from the original BioShock games are involved in this new project. Jonathan Pelling, who was a designer on the original BioShock and creative director for BioShock Infinite’s Columbia, is serving as the design director.
Hoagy de la Plante, who has contributed to multiple aspects of BioShock’s development, is the creative director, and Scott Sinclair, the art director for the original BioShock and Infinite, is also part of the team
The game is reportedly being developed using Unreal Engine 5, which promises cutting-edge graphics and a highly detailed game world.
