Personalization is great in video games, and I think with the rise of AI, we can see some really interesting applications of personalization features such as this new tech from Sony Interactive Entertainment.
The makers of PlayStation and the upcoming PS5 Pro, have now published a patent for a tech that allows the player to upload a selfie to the game and get an in-game avatar made with AI.
Seeing how AI images are getting insanely sophisticated, it is safe to say some incredible player avatars and in-game characters can be made using Sony’s new tech.
The patent is from early 2023 but got published publicly last week. I am really exciting about this tech if it gets implemented in games but Sony files a ton of patents all the time and very few actually make it.
In the past few months alone, Sony has published multiple AI related patents including the one on creating customization items via AI using user input.
