AMD just announced a range of products including a new range of APUs including the 5600GT and 5500GT. There seems to be a mix-up with the marketing material since some slides mention that the AMD Ryzen 5500GT features 4 cores and 8 threads while other slides claim that it has 6 cores and 12 threads. So which one is it?
AMD Ryzen 5500GT Features 6 Cores And 12 Threads
The slide that summarizes all the 5000 series CPUs for the AM4 platform mentions that the AMD Ryzen 5500GT features 4 cores and 8 threads.
On the other hand, the slide that only mentions the 5600GT and the 5500GT claims that the 5500GT features 6 cores and 12 threads.
So which one is it? Katsuaki Kato (KTU) cleared the air by mentioning that he got an email from AMD’s PR that told him about the mistake that had been made. The AMD Ryzen 5500GT has 6 cores and 12 threads. Which is also the specification mentioned on the official AMD website. It is also worth mentioning that the new 8500G APU also features 6 cores and 12 threads. The only processor that comes with 4 cores and 8 threads is the 8300G.
Model | Cores/Threads | Boost / Base Frequency | Total Cache | TDP | SEP
AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D | 8C/16T | Up to 4.1GHz / 3.0GHz | 100MB | 105W | $249
AMD Ryzen 7 5700 | 8C/16T | Up to 4.6GHz / 3.7GHz | 20MB | 65W | $175
AMD Ryzen 5 5600GT | 6C/12T | Up to 4.6GHz / 3.6GHz | 19MB | 65W | $140
AMD Ryzen 5 5500GT | 6C/12T | Up to 4.4GHz / 3.6GHz | 19MB | 65W | $125 |
While this is a minor mistake that can easily be made, it is confusing for a consumer especially when such a mistake is made in the slide deck for a new product launch. I hope whoever was in charge of sending out these slides does not lose the job.
Let us know what you think about the new AMD Ryzen 5600GT and 5500GT processors and whether or not you are interested in buying one of these APUs.
