No, Sony Is Not Blocking Games On Steam Deck

My Steam Deck is a God sent but when paired with Sony/PlayStation games it is just on another level. I was really surprised to hear Sony is blocking games on Steam Deck but it turns out, that is not true; at least not completely.

Yes, you can still play Sony games on Steam Deck. So what’s the problem? Well, there is an issue with multiplayer games but not with single player games.

Here’s what the developers actually said about the Ghost of Tsushima Steam Deck situation, give it a read and then we will discuss what it actually means.

We know many of you are eager to play Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on handheld gaming devices like the Steam Deck. We’re happy to share that the single player experience, including the Iki Island expansion, can be enjoyed on Steam Deck and similar handheld gaming PCs as we’ve worked extensively to optimize performance and deliver the best possible experience on these devices.

You may notice that Steam marks the game as ‘Unsupported’ for Steam Deck. This is due to the Legends co-op multiplayer mode requiring Windows to access PlayStation Network integrated features.

On behalf of everyone at Nixxes and Sucker Punch, we can’t wait for PC players to start their adventure and fight for the freedom of Tsushima!

So what does this mean? Well, the developers made it clear that since you need Windows to access PSN features including the multiplayer, online play will not work on Steam Deck. But the Single Player mode will still work so don’t be put off by the “Unsupported” label for Steam Deck.

The news went viral when it was shared by a Twitter user “Pirate Nation” but it seems the user didn’t actually read what the developers were saying or they misunderstood.

In any case, the good news is that you can still enjoy the amazing Ghost of Tsushima story mode on Steam Deck.
