How To Get Bone Chill Cantrip Spell In BG3

The primary way to obtain Bone Chill is by selecting classes that has access to it. Bone Chill is available from level 1 for Sorcerers, Warlocks, and Wizards. It’s also available at level 2 for Circle of Spores Druids and at level 3 for Eldritch Knights and Arcane Tricksters. Additionally, Bards from the College of Lore can pick up Bone Chill at level 6 through the Magical Secrets feature.

Certain races in Baldur’s Gate 3 can start with Bone Chill. High Elves and High Half-Elves can choose one wizard cantrip at character creation.

Feats provide another way to acquire Bone Chill, especially if your character does not naturally have access to it. The Magic Initiate feat allows you to choose a cantrip from the Sorcerer, Warlock, or Wizard spell lists.

Additionally, the Spell Sniper feat lets you learn a cantrip that requires an attack roll from any spell, including Bone Chill, and also doubles its range to 36 meters (120 feet).

How Bone Chill Spell Works

Bone Chill deals 1d8 necrotic damage and prevents the target from healing until the start of your next turn. This makes it particularly useful for stopping enemies from regenerating health. Against undead targets, Bone Chill imposes disadvantage on their attack rolls. As you level up, the damage increases to 2d8 at level 5 and 3d8 at level 10.

Bone Chill is effective for both its damage and its secondary effects. Use it to:

  • Prevent Healing: Stop enemies from healing themselves or being healed by their allies, making it easier to wear them down.
  • Debuff Undead: When facing undead enemies, use Bone Chill to give them disadvantage on attack rolls, reducing the damage your party takes.
  • Control the Battlefield: Combine Bone Chill with other spells that control or debuff enemies.
