While exploring the Charleston Neighborhood, you may encounter Lookout, a Mr. Handy robot at the foot of the U.S.S. Constitution in Fallout 4.
The ship is embedded in buildings overlooking Boston Harbor. Locate the hull door in the ruined building the ship is sitting on and make your way up through the interior to the exterior main deck. Speak to Captain Ironsides and agree to help him repair the vessel.
Charisma Check: (Easy) Ask for a reward up-front for your troubles.
Defend The Ship
The ship is under attack from Scavengers. Prep the streets below with traps before boarding the vessel.
Fire the cannons by completing the circuit breaker and softening the targets below. Attack with ranged or sniper weapons from the deck. Use the aft rowboat to quickly descend and ascend, and charge at the foes, or drop down if you have more robust armor on.
Fixing Power Cable Wiring Boxes
Head below deck and talk to the Bosun. You need to fix three power cable wiring boxes. Find a metal box (below deck) with three power cables in it and use them to repair the cables.
(Jury Rig, Intelligence 3+) Salvage the replacement power cables without needing the power cables from the metal box.
We Need A Chip
Head up on deck and speak to Mr. Navigator. He requires you to obtain a guidance chip from some Scavengers. Visit Mandy Stiles and her scavenger sidekick Davies at their store/hideout close to the ship.
Agree to work with her to bring down Ironsides and his crew. Take the guidance chip. Agree to work with Ironsides. Kill everyone and take the guidance chip.
Ignore her, sneak into the ruined building behind her, and steal the guidance chip from the cabinet. If spotted, Mandy and the Scavengers turn hostile.
While on shore leave, visit Bunker Hill and purchase a power relay coil from Deb, if you don’t want to repair it on the ship.
Return to the ship and head below deck to access the power relay.
Install the power relay coil you acquired. (Repair, Intelligence 5+) Repair the damaged coil without needing to find a new one.
Talk with the Bosun to conclude his tasks. Head to the deck and activate the Core Guidance System. Speak to Mr. Navigator, who rewards you and gives another job.
Getting Your Bearings
Mr. Navigator requires a radar transmitter. You can repair the one on the ship or find a new one from a random location, such as the Poseidon Energy Turbine #18-F. Locate the steamer trunk at the location and obtain the Poseidon Radar Transmitter.
Return to the ship and head on deck to the guidance radar. If you have the best Repair skill, you can fix this. Otherwise, install the new Poseidon Radar Transmitter. Report to Mr. Navigator for a reward and then talk to the captain.
Optional: Losing Your Bearings
At this point, you have one of two plans to commit to:
- Plan A: Return to the ship and install the turbopump bearings as Ironsides requested. This occurs whether you agreed to side with the Scavengers or not.
- Plan B: Stop off at Mandy’s location, sabotage the turbopump first, and then install it. This is only available if you sided with the Scavengers earlier and kept your word to Mandy.
Return to Ironsides and speak to him about his next scheme. You receive a reward for installing the Turbopump.
Plan A: Setting Sail
Before Ironsides can start his plan, fend off a last-ditch attack from the Scavengers. Use cannons, previously laid traps, and more devastating weapons. If Ironsides dies, the quest fails. After the Scavengers are dead, speak to Ironsides, who grants you the following and has one last request to fire up the auxiliary power:
Rewards:
- Unique Weapon: Broadsider
- Bottlecaps (1,500)
- Lieutenant’s Hat (and Captain’s Quarters)
Plan B: Engine Fail!
If you sabotaged the U.S.S. Constitution’s rockets, check in with Mandy Stiles before setting things in motion. Ascend the ruins of the building the Scavengers attacked from, flip the circuit breaker, and watch the engines explode. Board the ship and defeat Ironsides and any other crew members. Return to Mandy, who betrays you. Kill her and other Scavengers and loot the salvage.
Reward:
- Captain Ironside’s Hat
By following this guide, you will successfully complete the “Last Voyage of the U.S.S. Constitution” quest in Fallout 4.
