“The Big Dig” is a side quest in Fallout 4 that involves a heist in Goodneighbor.
Head to Goodneighbor and find Bobbi No-Nose behind the two locked warehouses to the southeast. She’ll be in a dingy alley with a metal door at the end. Talk to Bobbi to start the quest, where she will enlist your help for some tunneling work.
The Big Dig
Join Bobbi in the Dig area, which is infested with Mirelurks. Clear them out and proceed further into the dig site. Bobbi will send you to Diamond City to recruit Mel, who’s locked up in Diamond City Security. Mel is crucial for the heist due to his technical skills.
There are multiple ways to free Mel:
- Hack the Terminal: If you have high hacking skills, you can start the Protectron unit to distract the guards.
- Bribe the Guard: You can bribe the guard with 300 Caps.
- Pickpocket: Pickpocket a key from the guard or steal it from the desk inside the security office.
After freeing Mel, return to the dig site in Goodneighbor. You’ll meet Mel’s friend, Sonya, who will assist with the digging using her tunneling robot.
Proceed through the tunnels, using Sonya to break down walls in fragile sections. Be prepared to encounter more Mirelurks and Feral Ghoul commuters.
Along the way, you’ll find valuable items like Fusion Cores and Nuka Cola Quantums. There’s also a Power Armor suit in a side passage to the east.
Keep digging until you reach the strong room. This room is heavily guarded, and you’ll need to clear out the threats.
Confront Fahrenheit
Upon reaching the strong room, you’ll meet Fahrenheit, Mayor Hancock’s enforcer. The situation regarding the heist’s true nature will become clearer.
You have a choice to make now:
Help Bobbi fight Fahrenheit and her guards. You’ll get a share of the loot, including around 200 Bottle Caps. Or Help Fahrenheit and stop Bobbi. Fahrenheit will reward you with one of the unique weapons, Ashmaker.
Alternatively, use your Charisma to convince Bobbi to leave peacefully, avoiding a fight.
After making your decision, the quest concludes. Your choices will affect your standing with Mayor Hancock and Goodneighbor. Be prepared for possible repercussions based on your actions during the quest.
