How To Get Minor Illusion Spell In BG3

The primary way to obtain Minor Illusion is by selecting a class that has access to it. Minor Illusion is available from level 1 for Bards, Sorcerers, Warlocks, and Wizards. Additionally, Eldritch Knights (Fighter subclass) and Arcane Tricksters (Rogue subclass) gain access to Minor Illusion at level 3.

Certain races in Baldur’s Gate 3 can start with Minor Illusion due to their innate magical abilities. High Elves and High Half-Elves can choose one wizard cantrip at character creation.

Feats provide another way to acquire Minor Illusion, especially if your character does not naturally have access to it. The Magic Initiate feat allows you to choose a cantrip from the Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock, or Wizard spell lists.

How Minor Illusion Works

Minor Illusion creates a visual illusion that compels nearby creatures to investigate. This cantrip is particularly useful for stealthy characters as it allows them to remain hidden while casting the spell. It can be cast even while silenced.

Minor Illusion is effective for both combat and non-combat situations. Use it to:

  • Distract Enemies: Create an illusion to draw enemies’ attention away from your position, allowing you and your allies to move undetected or set up ambushes.
  • Control Battlefield: In combat, use Minor Illusion to manipulate enemy positioning and gain tactical advantages. Enemies will turn towards the illusion, which can disrupt their actions and create openings for your party members.
  • Spring Traps: Cast Minor Illusion on top of traps to trigger them without putting your characters at risk.
