Shadowheart is one of the main companions you can recruit in Baldur’s Gate. You can rescue Shadowheart during Act 1’s Nautiloid segment or discover her near the locked crypt door on the beach post-crash. As a Half-Elf and a Trickery Domain Cleric, Shadowheart brings healing, buffs, and a variety of stealth and deception spells to your party.
White is not the at the top of our companions Tier List, she certainly isn’t the worst one to have in your party.
Where to Find Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3
Shadowheart is encountered early in the game, before reaching the first main town. Here are the corrected steps to meeting Shadowheart:
- Begin Your Adventure: Your journey starts on the Nautiloid, a Mind Flayer’s ship. Your goal is to escape the ship and land on the Sword Coast.
- Capsule Room: During your exploration of the Nautiloid’s upper level, you will find a room filled with capsules. In one of these pods, Shadowheart is held captive who can be freed by solving the very simple pod puzzle.
- Capsule Terminal: The terminal controlling the capsules has three buttons. The left button has no effect. The middle button releases some people from the pods, who will attack your team. The right button will unfortunately lead to the death of those inside the capsules.
- Inspect the Capsule: You can attempt to inspect the opening mechanism of Shadowheart’s pod and pass a skill check to investigate it further. However, any effort to break the magical barriers will be unsuccessful. You cannot free Shadowheart at this point; she remains locked in the pod until the end of the prologue.
Recruit Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3
Shadowheart appears in the first act of the game, shortly after reaching the Ravaged Beach. Here’s how to recruit her:
- First Encounter: After landing on Ravaged Beach, head north-east to the Overgrown Ruins entrance. Shadowheart will be standing by the closed door.
- Speak With Shadowheart: Approach her and initiate a dialogue. She’ll recall whether you tried to free her from the pod on the Nautiloid. Regardless of your actions on the ship, you can still persuade her to join your party.
- Persuasion: The key to recruiting Shadowheart is a successful persuasion roll. During the dialogue, a prompt will appear, offering you several dialogue options. Select the most diplomatic responses to emphasize the shared goal of survival.
Points to Consider
Shadowheart is a complex character with her own goals and motivations. Engaging with her frequently and empathetically will deepen your connection, potentially unlocking further story developments and benefits. However, Shadowheart’s loyalty to Shar and her secretive nature might cause friction within the party, especially with characters of conflicting alignments.
Remember that while Shadowheart is a valuable asset due to her powerful healing spells and her ability to tank damage, she also has a knack for getting into tricky situations. Make sure your party is prepared to support her when the need arises.
