How To Get Fire Bolt Spell In BG3

The primary way to obtain Fire Bolt is by choosing a class that has access to it:

  • Sorcerer: Available from level 1.
  • Wizard: Available from level 1.
  • Eldritch Knight (Fighter subclass): Available from level 3.
  • Arcane Trickster (Rogue subclass): Available from level 3.
  • Bard (College of Lore): Available via Magical Secrets at level 6

Certain races can start with Fire Bolt. High Elves and High Half-Elves can choose one wizard cantrip at character creation, and Fire Bolt is a great choice.

Feats in Baldur’s Gate 3 offer another way to acquire the Fire Bolt cantrip, especially if your character is not a natural spellcaster. The Magic Initiate feat allows you to choose a cantrip from the Sorcerer or Wizard spells, making Fire Bolt a viable option. Additionally, the Spell Sniper feat provides the ability to learn a cantrip that requires an attack roll from any spell list, including Fire Bolt.

How Fire Bolt Works

Fire Bolt deals 1d10 fire damage and can ignite flammable objects it hits. At higher levels, its damage increases to 2d10 at level 5 and 3d10 at level 10.

Fire Bolt can interact with the environment in various ways:

  • Igniting Surfaces: Use Fire Bolt to ignite surfaces covered in oil, webs, or other flammable materials, creating hazardous areas for enemies.
  • Breaking Objects: It can be used to destroy wooden barriers or other destructible objects.

Combining Fire Bolt with other spells and abilities can increase effectiveness:

  • Create/Destroy Water: Use Create Water to douse enemies and then ignite them with Fire Bolt for a dramatic effect.
  • Ray of Frost Spell: Use Ray of Frost to slow enemies and Fire Bolt to finish them off, exploiting both cold and fire damage.
