Similar to other SoulsBorne games, Elden Ring allows the player to be reborn. Once reborn, the player are able to reset the stats/attributes. Doing so should allow the player to follow a whole lot of different builds in the game. However, do note that in addition to requiring an item, the ability to reborn a character is something that is not acquired from the beginning of the game. In this Elden Ring guide, we have detailed all there is to know about how to respec character.
Elden Ring: How To Respec
Before we begin, do note that the guide contains story-related spoilers. You have been warned!
The ability to respec stats is not available from the beginning of the game. To begin, travel to an area called the Liurnia. Once there, proceed to the Academy of Raya Lucaria. Do note that this requires an item called Glintstone Key. Once unlocked, progress through the game until Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. To start respecing in Elden Ring, you need to beat Rennala at the Academy of Raya Lucaria.
Acquiring the Glintstone Key
The Glintstone Key can be found in Liurnia, near the Academy of Raya Lucaria. It is located on a corpse next to a dragon in the water area west of the academy. Be cautious of the dragon nearby, and either sneak past it or prepare for a fight.
After beating Rennala, travel to the Grand Library (Site of Grace) and speak with her. It is Rennala who will allow the character to respec stats. However, do note that this requires an item called Larval Tear. There are two main ways to get them:
Buying Larval Tears
You can buy a Larval Tear from the Abandoned Vendor in the Siofra River area for 5,000 Runes. This vendor is underground, which you can get to by going through the Mistwood to the Siofra River Well. The vendor is located in the Worshipper’s Woods area of Siofra River.
To reach the vendor, navigate the scaffolding and structures in the area, avoiding or defeating enemies along the way.

There are 18 Larval Tears that can be found in the open world per playthrough. Here are their detailed locations:

When to Respec in Elden Ring?
Consider respeccing when you find new, powerful weapons or spells that require different stats, or when you encounter a boss that counters your current build.
Avoid putting too many points into a single stat unless it’s essential for your build. Ensure you maintain a balance between offensive and defensive stats. Plan your new build thoroughly before respeccing to avoid wasting Larval Tears.
Since these Larval Tear can be incredibly tough to get, Respec when you feel your current way of playing is not working well, or you want to try something new. Before you choose your new stats, make sure you understand what each build needs and how it matches your playstyle.
