Elden Ring: Best Legendary Weapons And How To Get Them

There are 308 weapons in Elden Ring across 32 different categories. 9 of these weapons are legendary weapons, which are unique and there is a special achievement that you can unlock for obtaining all the Legendary Armaments. These Legendary Armaments are scattered across the open world and are worth finding. After playing the Elden Ring for more than 250 hours and completing the game multiple times, here is my list of the best Legendary Weapons and how you can get them.

Best Legendary Weapons In Elden Ring Ranked

The following are all the Legendary Weapons in Elden Ring ranked best to worst and how you can get them.

Golden Order Greatsword

The Golden Order Greatsword comes in at number 9 on my list making it one of the less desirable weapons out of the Legendary Armaments. The weapon does a lot of damage since it is a greatsword and the skill called Established Order works great against bosses such as Fire Giant and Maliketh.

The skill does take some time to cast fully and the ranged projectiles only do Holy damage. The primary explosion only does Holy damage as well. So you need to be close enough to the enemy to follow up the explosion will melee hits. Otherwise, the weapon will only do Holy damage.

The weapon does +20% more damage against undead enemies, making it ideal for dealing with enemies such as the Death Rite Bird.

The major downside is that you only get this weapon later on in the game and the late-game bosses are resistant to Holy damage. So you would be better off using a different weapon.

You can get the Golden Order Greatsword by defeating the Misbegotten Crusader found in Cave of the Forlorn in Mountaintops of the Giants.

Pros:

  • Great damage
  • Great skill damage when full cast
  • +20% damage against undead enemies

Cons:

  • Takes time to cast full skill
  • Late-game bosses are resistant to holy damage
  • Weapon is obtained in late-game
  • Skill explosion and projectiles only deal Holy damage

Eclipse Shotel

The Eclipse Shotel has a 50-50 split between Holy and Physical damage, so you would imagine that it would be the worst of the Legendary weapons in Elden Ring but that is not the case.

The damage of the weapon is similar to that of the Golden Order Greatsword but has lower DPS. The stance damage of the weapon is pretty low as well and chances are that you will kill a boss with the weapon before you can stagger it. The weapon also has a small range. So you really need to get up close and personal with enemies in order to attack them.

What makes this better than the Golden Order Greatsword is that it is the fastest attacking weapon on this list of the best Legendary weapons in Elden Ring. This allows you to get plenty of attacks in at once as long as you have enough stamina. The skill of the weapon is called Death Flare, and it buffs the weapon with increased damage and death blight build-up.

With all this in mind, the weapon is not ideal for late-game bosses including Radagon, Elden Beast, and Godskin Duo. This is not a weapon that I can recommend using.

Eclipse Shotel can be found on the altar of the church in the southeast section of Castle Sol.

Pros:

  • Fast attacks
  • Decent damage

Cons:

  • Low stance damage
  • Enemies cannot be killed with death blight

Devourer’s Scepter

Devourer’s Scepter is a legendary weapon that can be obtained very early on in Elden Ring. Devourer’s Scepter has the skill called Devourer of Worlds. The skill damage is not great and even though it does heal you, it isn’t a lot. So you will not be using the skill of the weapon for damage or healing.

It is an interesting hammer that has a good moveset and does a decent amount of stance damage. You will be able to stagger any boss in Elden Ring with a few hits with this hammer. The weapon does fire damage, which can be boosed with Flame Grant Me Strength and the Flame Shrouded Cracked Tear.

You can get the weapon from Knight/Recusant Bernahl at the Warmaster’s Shack in Stormhill or the Crumbling Farum Azula when he invades you. You can head to Warmaster’s Shack and kill him to get the weapon and his armor.

Pros:

  • Above average scaling
  • Decent damage
  • Good stance damage
  • Deals fire damage
  • Can be buffed easily

Cons:

  • Low skill damage
  • Low healing from skill

Ruins Greatsword

The Ruins Greatsword is a colossal sword that you can get by defeating the Misbegotten Warrior and the Crucible Knight duo in Redmane Castle. It has the standard moveset of a colossal sword but it has a special charged attack that deals gravity magic damage. It deals bonus damage to gravity enemies such as Astel and the Fallingstar Beast.

The skill of the weapon is called Wave of Destruction and makes rocks come out of the ground in a massive line in front of the player. The skill is very fun to use and deals a good amount of damage and a fair amount of stance damage. If you are close enough to the enemy when using the skill then you can hit twice, once from the sword coming down and then from the rocks.

The Ruins Greatsword can be buffed using the Warrior Jar Shard, Axe Talisman, and Radaagon’s Sorceal. Do note that this is the heaviest weapon on this list and the third-heaviest in Elden Ring.

Pros:

  • Bonus damage to gravity enemies
  • Fun skill that deals great damage and stance damage

Cons:

  • Very heavy weapon

Bolt Of Gransax

Bolt of Gransax is one of the most popular spears in Elden Ring due to its skill (Ancient Lightning Spear) that allows you to snipe enemies from a distance. Since this is a spear and not a greatspear, its attack speed is fast. It also has massive reach allowing you to deal damage from a distance. The downside is that the reach when attacking after rolling is not as impressive. So you need to be near enemies after you roll to attack them.

The Ancient Lightning Spear skill is impressive and since it is chargeable, you can buff it with Godfrey’s Icon and the Warrior Jar Shard. The range of the skill allows you to land a couple of hits on a boss before it can even get to you. You can defeat Morgott, for example, without ever getting close to him.

The Bolt of Gransax can be found on the Bolt of Gransax in Leyndell, Royal Capital. You can get it once you have defeated Godfrey (shade). Since the weapon is in Leyndell, it will no longer be obtainable once you have defeated Maliketh.

Pros:

  • Great range
  • Impressive ranged skill
  • Can be buffed with Godfrey’s Icon and the Warrior Jar Shard

Cons:

  • Unobtainable after defeating Maliketh

Grafted Blade Greatsword

The skill of the Grafted Blade Greatsword (Oath of Vengeance) buffs a player’s attributes, including the stats. It scales primarily with Strength but also scales with Dexterity. Which is ideal if you are going for a combination of these stats. This is one of the only weapons in Elden Ring that deals purely physical damage.

You can get the Grafted Blade Greatsword by defeating the Leonine Misbegotten at the end of Castle Morne, in the southernmost part of the Weeping Peninsula. This is also the third legendary weapon that you get from a Misbegotten warrior.

Pros:

  • High damage
  • Skill provides great buff
  • Can be obtained early

Cons:

  • High strength requirement

Sword Of Night And Flame

In third place on our list of the best Legendary weapons in Elden Ring, I have the Sword of Night and Flame. This was the go-to weapon when the game first came out and it was broken. While it has since been patched, it is still one of the best Legendary weapons that you can get mid-game.

You can find the weapon inside a chest in Carrion Manor and requires 12 Strength, 12 Dexterity, 24 intelligence, and 24 Faith. So you need to invest in four different stats to use it with a fairly high requirement of intelligence and Faith. The damage of the weapon is split between physical, magic, and fire so the melee damage that it does can vary depending on the enemy or boss that you are up against.

The skill is why this weapon is so good. The skill is called Night-and-Flame Stance and is two skills in one. Do a light attack to do Comet Azur or a charged attack to cast a wave of flames. The Comet Azur scales off Intelligence while the flames scale off Faith. Both types of attacks deal a lot of damage and have 40 poise damage. The flame attack has a very wide hitbox and a lot of range, making it amazing for clearing a large number of enemies. Furthermore, if you are close enough to the enemy, the sword itself does damage.

The weapon can easily be buffed with Flame Grant Me Strength, Warrior Jar Shard, Ritual Sword Talisman, and Magic And Flame Shrouded Cracked Tears to boost both the Night and Flame skills of the weapon.

Pros:

  • Two in one skill
  • High fire and magic damage
  • Easily buffed
  • High poise damage
  • Can be found mid-game

Cons:

  • Requires investing in 4 attributes

Dark Moon Greatsword

The Dark Moon Greatsword is obtained at the end of Ranni’s questline. Once you do have it, it is very easy to buff since you are already into the late game. You can use the Axe Talisman, Godfrey Icon, Ritual Sword Talisman, and Warrior Jar Shard. You can also use the Spiked Cracked Tear and Magic Shrouded Cracked Tear coupled with Flame Grant Me Strength and Golden Vow.

The combination mentioned above gives you very high damage and allows you to defeat bosses such as Margott in 3 hits with the sword enchanted with its skill. The sword by itself isn’t as great. If you do a charged attack with both the weapon and the projectile hitting, you do 172 frost build-up. Once an enemy is frozen or inflicted with frostbite, the Dark Moon Greatsword deals 20% more damage.

The projectile of the sword deals 35-stance damage, allowing you to stagger enemies easily. Paired with the frost build-up, this is a deadly combination that allows players to deal with almost any kind of boss.

Pros:

  • Very powerful skill
  • Easy to buff weapon
  • Projectile deals 35 stance damage
  • Frostbite build-up
  • Does 20% extra damage to frostbite enemies

Cons:

  • Obtained at the end of Ranni’s questline

Marais Executioner’s Sword

The Marais Executioner’s Sword comes in at the top of the list of the best legendary weapons in Elden Ring. It beats the Dark Moon Greatsword by only a small margin because players can obtain the weapon much sooner. The Marais Executioner’s Sword is dropped by Elemer of the Briar at The Shaded Castle, in the northern region of the Altus Plateau.

The skill is the main source of damage for this weapon and the reason why you want it. The skill is called Eochaid’s Dancing Blade and throws the sword forward while having it deal successive strikes. Successive attacks can be buffed with Millicent’s Prosthesis, Winged Sword Insignia, Rotten Winged Sword Insignia, and Thorny Cracked Tear. The only problem is that you cannot get both items from Millicent in a single run. You can also pair the weapon with the Ritual Sword Talisman and the Warrior Jar shard for massive amounts of damage.

Pros:

  • Massive skill damage
  • Easy to buff
  • Can be obtained mid-game
